Somebody's Getting Ready to WRAP
I hate wrapping Christmas gifts. Sorry SS, I will still get them to you on time.:p
Anyway, I use to pay one of my kids to wrap them all. My youngest is too busy to do it and she was never very good at it. My other two are in college so they are not around. I may have to take them to the mall and let someone else wrap them. I may just put them all in gift bags with a bit of paper on top. I don't know. Anyone else hate wrapping gifts.:mad2: |
I do! I used to like it, when I could drink a pint of voddie while I wrapped. Wrapping sober kinda sucks.
I have my SS gift. I'm sending them out Dec. 3 and should get there in plenty of time (i hope) |
I LOVE wrapping gifts. This year we have decided not to exchange gifts, and actually one of the things I'm saddest about is not getting to wrap anything. If I lived a little closer, Merc, I'd happily wrap them for you.

I'd hire you. Maybe I can send them to you and you can send them back wrapped. Maybe not.

I like wrapping, but then again, I loved origami when I was a kid.

ooooh, I LOATHE wrapping! It's the worst part of giving presents, and I dread it every year. Giftees are lucky if they get any wrapping at all. hurts my back!
|
I may wrap one or two presents with an eye to making crisp edges, matching the designs, coordinating bow colors, and doing something special with way the ribbon is placed. Then I lose interest and the others look crappy, if they get wrapped at all. The problem for me is between making a packing look nice and helping the planet to stay looking nice - all that paper and ribbon wasted for the effort gets to me.

not to mention the cost. shit, that stuff is expensive!

Years ago, my mother came up with a solution that has suited her extremely well: she went to Goodwill and purchased about a dozen random pillowcases in a variety of printed patterns. Pretty much everything fits inside a pillowcase, and she just ties the top off with a little ribbon and she's done. They were 25 cents each, and she has reused them for every birthday and Christmas since then.

Snap. Sigh that I'm only sending a few gifts this year. I'll probably use my Mum's leftover wrap (she always has some as she buys rolls). It's not to my taste, but not only do I know I'm on a budget, but the family do too and won't appreciate the self-indulgence of beautiful looking presents. In fact my parents and I have agreed not to exchange gifts at all (then my Mum was trying to buy me 2 x jumpers for £20, which is a bargain, but is still a present!) I might go for brown paper and tartan ribbon though. It looks lovely, really is cheap, and with the tiny token gifts they're getting will be a fitting wrap. Snap. And I'd wrap for you too if I could Merc. I did my boss's wrapping two years running when I was 19-20. She was blown away by my Secret Santa wrapping the first year I worked for her, and sidled up to me to ask if I wanted some extra money. It was funny, it was like she was offering me a porno shoot or something - she was SO embarrassed. I'm pretty sure I refused payment and just got a really expensive present from her, that fades into insignificance compared to the fun I had setting the theme the year after, hoping she'd be impressed enough to ask me again (she did). It was such an ego oboost from a woman with impeccable taste and grooming. |
I love wrapping, and regard Christmas Gift Bags as cheating, unless the gift is extremely large or oddly shaped. I've even dealt with oddly shaped in gift-wrap.
I'm very persnickety about how I wrap, do corners and edges and so forth. I watch the professional wrappers in the department stores in hopes of picking up tips and tricks. I'd love to have one of those table-mounted paper roll things, but I don't have a sufficiently large table that I can dedicate to the task. The Scotch Magic Tape Wrist Dispenser is the best accessory to have when gift wrapping. |
