Vonage
Does anyone here use vonage? I am wondering whether I should sign up with them and what the service is like. AT&T is ridiculous. Thanks bunches.
|
We have had Vonage for about 18 months, nothing to complain about. We have the basic service, 500 minutes etc. and not unlimited. We never go over the minutes, extra charge is 4c a min I think, Calls to the UK 4c a min also.
Of course it's VOIP so if you lose your internet , you phone goes out too, but them comcast who we had before wasnt VOIP so that wasn't a change. |

We are in BC Canada.
We had Vonage for a year, HATED it. If you were talking to anyone long distance, it would cut out if there was any noise on both ends. (both talking, baby crying, while someone was talking, music too loud, etc) It went out many times and the 911 service was iffy. ( not that we needed it, but still) We changed to Shaw Phone 2 years ago, and love it. The only time it has gone out, was the power outage last summer, and when some idiot ran into the service poles and took out 1/4 of the city for Shaw, Bell, Virgin mobile and one other.... |
Vonage has worked well for me, but for some reason I can't log on their website to pay my bill. They don't take paper checks, so I have to phone them every month. Had their service for 2 years.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Still not decided what to do.

Check into "Magic Jack". <$20.00 yr. Local & long distance. W/ most bells & whistles. Don't know anyone personally who has it but I thought about trying it. It's like $40.00 for the jack, which is actually a USB plug in attached to any phone. Can be found at wally world.

I saw 'Magic Jack' in CVS, of all places.

It's easy and cheap but I don't know how reliable they are. But at 40 bucks, it's not a huge gamble.
I sure as hell thought SOMEONE in the Cellar would have one. |
From what I understand, with the magic jack, your computer has to be on and you have to be connected to the net. With Vonage, you don't. that's why I'm not considering it. I checked into it by looking at reviews, and most people said it wasn't viable as the only phone in the house.

I had it when I lived in the foothills in Cali - Comcast sucked, so it sucked. No computer or phone pretty much every Saturday afternoon. Would have to stand on top of the fountain in my back yard to get cell phone reception to call tehm and tell them they suck. But if you don't live among the coyotes and hawks, and have good cable service, go for it!
