Kashmir: Ground zero of global jihad
Quote:
Very long but informative article on the connection between terrorist groups in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Kashmir. |
Not long at all. A good read.

Cough. "Ground zero" refers to where the bomb went off, or the attack took place. Not where the bad guys hang out. cough.
|
:headshake Ground zero refers to where it started, be it an explosion or movement.
|
In its first usage, ground zero meant the point on the earth's surface directly beneath a nuclear bomb. I guess meanings drift over time, but I think you're drifting it too far. IMHO, YMMV, EAD, ETC
|
Then I suggest you pay more attention to the media usage of ground zero for the past 50+ years.
Home > Library > Literature & Language > Dictionary n. 1-The target of a projectile, such as a missile or bomb. 2-The site directly below, directly above, or at the point of detonation of a nuclear weapon. 3-The center of rapid or intense development or change: “The neighborhood scarcely existed five years ago, but today it is the ground zero from which designer shops and restaurants radiate” (Robert Clark). 4-The starting point or most basic level: My client didn't like my preliminary designs, so I returned to ground zero. |
