The Music Lesson

The Music Lesson is a book by Victor Wooten, a well known bass player. It is in the form of a folk tale; the musician who can't seem to break through is visited by a mysterious stranger. But the story is just a creative way for Wooten to show the reader how to think about making music.

I'm about half way through at this point. I can't say, yet, what long-term impact it will have on my playing, but it has definitely helped me to think differently about playing music and practicing. Having another way to look at things is always useful.

Anyone else read it?

And I've put it on my ama2on wishlist so maybe I'll get it for Christmas myself!

Two other books I would highly recommend, along similar lines.

"Effortless Mastery"
and
"The War of Art"

Thanks, smooth.

start with "War of Art". It will help you put everything else in perspective. Then you'll have time to implement the stuff in "Effortless Mastery".
