Three Headlines

Apparently Britain's population is undergoing a 'babyboom'. Here are three different headlines for the same story from three different newspapers:

The Independant:

Quote:

Baby boom drives British population to record high
The Sun:

Quote:

Randy couples push population to 61m
The DailyMail:

Quote:

The migrant baby boom: Foreign mothers help push Britain's population past 61m

:P

well, there is a lot of pushing involved in having babies!

Funny how the DM blames the increase on Foreign Mothers. Those damm MFing immigrants! :0

Just stood out as not being the same as the other two... [/shrugs]

It's true: without foreign-born mothers, first-generation immigrants, Britain's birth rate would be experiencing a population drop; with them, it's experiencing a boom. Immigrants are "replacing" the population. And with it, the culture. This is inevitable, and IIRC, is happening in almost every Western European country. Left to the reader is whether this is a good thing.

That's just jolly.

Actually, whilst it is true that first generation immigrants are responsible for some of the boom, they are not responsible for all of it. British born mothers are also going through a boom: women in their thirties who've not had children yet are having more children now. At the same time fewer Brits are leaving the country. If the immigrant mothers weren't having a baby boom we'd not now be reducing our population. We'd simply rising at a slightly slower rate.
