My brother (ex-flyhalf) forwarded this email from some Bonnies list he's on. This is a kinda big deal for a tiny school. I wonder how long they'll cling to the ranking?

Your very own SBU Outlaws have cracked the Top 25 Ranking in their first year in Division I with a #24 ranking........ 24th out of the 500+ teams in the country!

Well done to all of those who have laid the groundwork in the past 34 years as well as to those who continue to, with special mention to Clarence Picard and the boys for their incredible hardwork.

Well done lads and best of luck this Saturday against defending league champion Syracuse!

For those unable to attend the match this weekend at SBU, live game updates and scores will be posted on:

Start calling any Kiwi or Aussie friends that "may have" graduated from SBU for this year's alumni match.

Most interesting facet is when you look at the enrollments of the other schools on the list.

I am surprised my school did not make the cut this year. Maybe they are not competing in D1.

Griff 10-09-2009 09:08 AM

7 player rugby is in! Oddly, golf is included as well wtf? That is about as much a sport as hotdog eating, auto-racing, or beer pong.

xoxoxoBruce 10-09-2009 09:14 AM

Why is golf less a sport than javelin or Biathlon?

Shawnee123 10-09-2009 09:15 AM

OH please. Play golf, do you?

I'm very glad rugby is in. Golf too.

More sport than synchronized swimming, both of them. (oh, and soccer)

A healthy person playing golf should never have a heart rate over 60 bpm. In my mind that makes it a game not a sport, but I'm an anti-golf bigot. :)

No, but I did 45 years ago, for long enough to know the discipline it takes to play well consistently. Ever tried it?

More sport than synchronized swimming,
Synchronized swimming is incredibly difficult, and physically demanding, at Olympic levels. Just try propelling your self up out of the water to your waist, and hold it there. I could never do it, doubt most people could.

Rugby's a no brainer, definitely a sport. But the question remains, how/why is javelin or Biathlon more a sport than golf?

You obviously don't play golf, and don't realize how much energy it takes to wrap a 9 iron around a tree. :haha:

Shawnee123 10-09-2009 09:34 AM

bruce, I was talking to Griff.

I know how difficult golf is. Yes, I've played.

Synchronized swimming is surely difficult, but it's dance, not sport.

Yeah, I feel that way about soccer, any sport when you can't use most of your body...

And baseball...don't even get me started on a sport where you can play an entire game, then have enough energy to play an entire other game....hours upon hours of sitting around and waiting.

Yawns me.

xoxoxoBruce 10-09-2009 09:42 AM

What is sport?

Shawnee123 10-09-2009 09:43 AM

Twisting posts and making argument where there was none, just for funsies, should be a sport!

Griff 10-09-2009 09:44 AM

[for the]An activity that approximates a primitive survival skill.[sake of argument]

Shawnee123 10-09-2009 09:55 AM

Heeheee...I'm imagining cavemen hitting rocks into the distance with sticks to kill bison or something. :)

Griff 10-09-2009 10:01 AM

Lil Pete and I are going to Iowa this weekend to participate in a real sport. ;)

Speaking of which, I need to stop poking Bruce with a stick and start packing.
