Rosemont is going Catholic

Apparently there really are right wing Anglicans willing to go with the Pope. Instead of addressing her irrelevence the Church will back-fill with with like minded pre-modern people. As an (ex) Vatican II Catholic, I can only wonder why it took me so long to see the true direction of the Church.

The arrangement is tailor-made for an “Anglo-Catholic” parish like this one, which has strenuously opposed the Episcopal Church over decisions like allowing women and gay people to become priests and bishops. Mass here is celebrated in the “high church” style reminiscent of traditional Catholic churches, with incense, elaborate vestments and a choir that may sing in Latin.

For 17 years, the parish has refused to allow the local Episcopal bishop to come for a pastoral visit or confirmation, and then stopped paying its annual financial assessment to the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania.
Let them try that with Rome!
Warning: You are entering a top down organization. Conform or be cast out.

It amazes me that such people hate gays and women so much that they will go with such a retrograde organization as the Roman Catholic Church.

Will the priest become celibate? I hope so - he deserves that.

In fact, many of the churches where the Anglo Catholic movement was started many years ago are now listed as "gay friendly". Christ Church in New Haven is a good example.

What I think is funny is that the Episcopal schism is nudging congregations (who really don't like the Papists all that much) back towards Rome.

Sign of the Apocalypse # ... anybody remember what we're up to?

There is no conflict, is there?

I guess they'll annul his marriage, de-legitimize his kids, and he'll stick to alter boys from here on out?

Yay! Bring on the horsemen! 2012 is right around the corner.

This parish could be one of the first in the United States to convert en masse after the Vatican completes plans for a new structure to allow Anglicans to become Catholic while retaining many of their spiritual traditions, like the Book of Common Prayer and married priests.
Maybe this is an opening to make marriage optional for Catholic Priests? It would save the Church a whole lot of money, and mollify the people that are turning away from the Church over these scandals.

I think that the Catholic Church's position on married Anglican clergy is that they can remain married.

SamIam 10-26-2009 12:20 PM

Well, that gives a sly way for priests who want to marry to sneak into the back door of the Catholic church.

Sundae 10-26-2009 01:13 PM

It baffles me that the Catholic church sticks to a rule that has such a poor (no pun intended) reason for being created in the first place. It was all about inheritance. Money. Root of all eveil - not the penis after all. Priests were happily married for a century after Jesus walked this earth, but then the Church got greedy.

Hang on - isn't hate a sin or something?

Everyone should love eachother. Physically if possible.
I have to admit this is not an impartial opinion.

I'm up for rumpy pumpy, please.

The whole thing seems more like an end-around by the Vatican to bring some more followers into their fold. More about the politics of religion than anything else.

Of course you didn't, how could you have this being your first post. :eyebrow:
I suppose you think you're smarter than all the other Vietnamese spammers that came before you, just slipping in an obtuse post or two, before you dump a flood of spam.
