Write the past you a letter/e-mail

I have messed up BIG in my life at times and it would be nice if the future me could write me a letter telling me in no uncertain terns not to do it, whatever "it" might be.

Like, "Sammy, do not place that bowl of tadpoles under your bed and forget it until your Mother makes an unpleasant surprise some days later.

Some messages should arrive FedEX - please open at once:

"Dear Sam, I know he looks like Robert Redford, has a droll sense of humor, writes you poetry and has a good job for the moment.

Please now run as fast as you can. He dinks like a fish, will dump his two kids on you, become engaged to you, tell you that he'd like you to be a stay at home step Mom, and then for his coup de grace, he will run off to California one night, leaving you penniless and trying to decide what to do with his 2 kids who'd rather die then go back to Mom."

Warnings like these are sorely needed in the modern era, and science should make every effort to make the reverse e-mail/letter a possibiity.

To past self: you're gonna fuck up. A lot. Don't worry, you're stronger than you think. By the time you realize that you are, you'll be pretty content. Until then...keep your chin up.

Dear Juni:

Dump him. Now. Yes, he's cute and he makes your toes curl, but he's not nearly your intellectual equal and there are much better men out there. Stop playing "poor me" and take your parents' offer to send you AWAY to college, even if it's just to Columbus. Stay fairly sober, and finish at least 4 years. You don't think you can do it, but you can. You don't think it's important, but it is vital. Because, believe me, it will really be much harder to finish that B.A. at the age of 42.

On the other hand, if I had done that, I might not have met my hubby (not the one I should've dumped back then . . .), had my beautiful babies, and been where I am today. So maybe I wouldn't send it after all!

I actually wasted a lot of time doing that yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't have much to say outside of, hey I hope you are alive because anyone else that finds this might freak out a little. Here: http://www.futureme.org/
