.House panel passes college football playoff bill

WASHINGTON – A House subcommittee approved legislation Wednesday aimed at forcing college football to switch to a playoff system to determine a national champion, over the objections of some lawmakers who said Congress had more pressing matters on its plate.

From Yahoo news.

bizarre.

I think there are more pressing matters. Like I hear they cut the budget a little for Chuck this upcoming season, and there won't be as many explosions and helicopters and stuff like that.

On the other hand, if they keep themselves busy with trivia like this, they won't have time to bollocks up important stuff.

Mind you, it probably means they will bollocks up college sport, but that's the price you pay.

Heres' the part of this that pisses me off:

Quote:

"What can we say -- it's December and the BCS is in chaos again," said the bill's sponsor, Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He said the BCS system is unfair and won't change unless prompted by Congress.
This is NOT THE JOB OF THE CONGRESS!!! They are not responsible for correcting every unfair thing in our society. This mindset leads to the expansion of the federal government and the establishment of a nanny state, in which we the people become helpless invalids, relying on the mighty congress to settle every playground squabble.

Grow up, people! Step back, Congress!

Every exercise of government power, however small or seemingly inconsequential, does violence to the freedom of the people.

You know what else is unfair? That guy two cubes over makes more money than I do and he's far less skilled than me. You know what I'm going to do? I'll work harder and produce better results. Not complain to fucking Congress.

Note: Hard work and stellar results won't do shit for me. I work for the State and, on top of painful bureaucracy that makes good work impossible, they pay 10% under market (they explicitly tell you this) and there's no room for advancement. So I'll work hard in ways that build my skills for a couple of years and move on.

Bravo! May I quote you on that?

Sure, but I'm pretty sure that I'm just misquoting Thoreau.

Right on! They should stay away from a woman's right to choose, and away from deciding which gender someone can marry!

On the other hand, I support anything that will get us a NCAA football playoff.
