Dealing with Car Insurance Claims

Any advice you folks that have been through this can offer is welcome. As some of you know, we got in an accident last Saturday, and are dealing with the repair process. I don't want to get screwed.

Obviously they aren't going to say, "hear you poor victim" and throw huge piles of cash at you, but if you are dealing with one of the major companies and there is no personal injury involved most of them will just have to you get an estimate faxed to them and get the work done. The only place you may run into trouble is if you have any one off custom work done on your ride.

have you lost command of the English language, sir?

lookout123 02-12-2010 10:15 PM

upon review i can say: yes. yes i have. my point if you can decipher it still stands.

lumberjim 02-12-2010 10:21 PM

at this point, i'm concerned about the tires.

they are big meaty mud terrain tires. i want them all to be the same size. one is torn, and i want 4 new ones.

Maybe you should push for the idea that the car is totaled, then? Tell them a repaired car is never as good as new, and you're not interested in a repair job at all.

lumberjim 02-12-2010 10:53 PM

noey

lookout123 02-12-2010 11:16 PM

There is exactly ZERO chance you'll get that totalled. Literally impossible.

How many miles are on your set of tires. I had 19,000 on my FJ tires when I shelled one out and the warranty replaced just that one. I honestly can't tell you which one it is now.

Hire a PI attorney, get an MRI and take them to the mat.

And flying bitch slap too.

Remember to talk about "loss of consortium" and show them a picture of Jinx in the shower. Dude, you'll never have to work again.

there's probably 25K on this set. like these

If you total your car you will never get the amount of cash you need to replace it.

If the other guy was cited then you should have no problem getting the repairs. Getting your tires replaced as they were might be another problem.

Did you have a claims adjuster look at your car?

Once I was hit side on and the person was cited. I was a little hurt and the insurance covered everything. Then they sued the other company for the charges. I got blue book value for my audi. It was not enough to replace it though.

I had new tires a $400 dollar set which may seem cheap but it was a lot of money to me and the price of those were not assessed with the rest of the car. If I had a guy I would have pulled those suckers off and taken them home.

That intersection has a light on it now. I obviously wasn't the only one.

About Attorneys. Don't get one. I did and the assistant to the attorney did all the work and the obese slob( suspenders and greasy flip over with hanging baggage below the knees) who I never met face to face got a whopping chunk of settlement money, which was coming from the insurance company anyway. Afterward I realized I didn't NEED the attorney because the insurance companies have their own. The other person was in the wrong and so I got screwed twice.

Heh, there's a light now where I had my first accident. And the lawsuit took so long that the other party mentioned it in her testimony, even though it wasn't there at the time.

skysidhe 02-13-2010 03:14 PM

what?

never mind

first accident? oh yes I have had people plow into me 3 times and all cited as their fault.

That was years ago but these days I still speed up and veer over ever so slightly when I see people thinking crazy, like they are going to pull in front of my vehicle. People will pull out in front of 'safe' drivers but not a loose cannon. Having assholes hit your car so many times you either become a shirking violet or a little edgy.

skysidhe 02-13-2010 03:24 PM

That sounds so incriminating!

:driving: get out of the way! I'm coming through!

heheh

ZenGum 02-13-2010 05:40 PM

Marge: Homer, I think you should drive a little more ... defensively.

Homer: Oh Marge, the best defense is a good offense!

LJ, you're absolutely right about the tyres. A 4x4 needs all four changed at the same time, otherwise you screw up your diff/transfer case.
But I don't see an insurance company shelling out for four brand new tyres when your visible loss is one partly used tyre. Best I can think of is trying to hunt down a second hand tyre, of the same brand and tread pattern, with about the right amount of wear. Good luck with that. :right:
