Om Nom.

The children and I have already tossed a few.

These are crepe-style British pancakes.

First we had them stuffed with beef and onion sauce, cheese sauce and mushrooms, and then we covered them with butter, sugar, and freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice. beest should be home for his any second now.

:yum:

I cheated and bought mine from M&S.
Well, I wanted Grandad to have some, and the last thing I wanted to do was mess up his kitchen. I'm also a bit hit & miss with about the first four, and worse with an audience...

So he got two with lemon and sugar for his afternoon tea. His face lit up when I said that's what he was having. He had a sandwich for later of course (red salmon & cucumber on white), but pancakes were served at 16.00.

I had two with blueberries and Candarel (low cal sweetener).
Two left in fridge. Might have them with the leftover salmon tomorrow!

Btw Monnie, I think you mean Shrove Tuesday, right?

No. Like any good Manc, she knows damn well that this is Pancake Day!

or Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

I don't think they are eating pancakes though.

Had pancakes tonight. They were pretty good.

Last week, during the blizzard, we had another family over when they lost power, and made pancakes for breakfast the next day. We used a mix from Wolverman's. My father in law had given us a breakfast of the month club from Wolverman's. They are usually pretty good. Things like coffe cake, or english muffins. But these Wolverman's pancakes were easily the WORST pancakes I've had in my entire life. They were just horrible. Heavy, chewy, flavorless. Just terrible. I was embarrassed to be serving them to our guests, but they claimed they like them

Don't ever get the Wolverman's pancake mix. Yuck. They are horrible.

Most pancake mixes are pretty bad. Mrs. Z makes an excellent yogurt pancake.

If I observed Lent I might consider calling it Shrove Tuesday, but I don't, and like Dana said, where I come from it's Pancake Day, pure and simple.

Here in Michigan/Detroit, they say Fat Tuesday and eat Packzis (pronounced poonchkies). They're like big filled glazed donuts. There are pre-dawn lines outside the bakeries in Hamtramck to buy them. One is too many imo.

BTW these were made using Delia Smith's recipe:

4oz plain (gp to you yanks) flour, pinch of salt, sifted, break two eggs into the centre (center).
7 fl oz milk 3 fl oz water in a jug.
Whisk eggs slowly incorporating flour, when you run out of egg slowly add the milk/water.

add a little melted butter and cook away. You must toss them rather than turn with an implement or your firstborn will be forever cursed with a two-inch tall phallic wart on the top of it's head and your dog will regurgitate egg and beetroot juice on your favorite chair (The devil told this to Jesus in the wilderness)
