Oh my god! How is it that I can figure it out 5 seconds after posting and I've been listening to it for an hour before? Wow...that's just wrong.

On the "what song is this" theme, I have a question.

A few years back there was a blues/roots song one the radio a bit. It was deep and very funky, and the only lyrics I can remember was from the chorus, something like:

cut Cut CUT CUT!
(blah blah blah blah)
cut Cut CUT CUT!
(blah blah blah blah)

The "blah"s are in fact other words I cannot remember. The "cut"s are in fact cut, they get progressively louder and more emphatic as they are repeated.

That's all I can tell you. Any ideas? I've tried google but all I get is heavy metal trash CUT CUT CUT.

Alas, no ... how many songs are there that go "cut cut cut cut"???

The song I have in mind is much funkier, more base, with some swampy blues thrown in. The "cut" line is used twice in each chorus.

Even google cannot help me now. :(

this is probably way wrong but maybe bob marley - hypocrites? That's not really my definition of blues or funk, but not everyone thinks of it the same.

Definitely not the reggae, and #8, while it has about the right level of funk, needs a lot more blues, and to be a bit deeper in the vocals.

No. Actually it's quite common. The process of preparing to explain the problem/question to others gets parts of your brain going that weren't involved up until then. All programmers have this happen to them now and again.

BTW, if you like swing enough to have one swing album in your collection, the soundtrack to Swing Kids is a good survey (and includes Sing, Sing, Sing).
