Teen suicide attempt

Teen Saved

This is kind of scary, not so much because of the suicide attempt, though that is scary, but because of how so many users responded. Thanks God for people like Jennifer Martini.
Now I wonder how this is going to be received. Is it going to provoke an attack on online communities, or is it going to be seen as a positive, especially considering a suicide attempt was averted.

Makes you doubt they had any "community" at all.

Periodicity: a few months. This kind of thing happens fairly frequently, including at least one moderately-famous webcam girl who's pulled the "Bye y'all" stunt at least once. MUDs and other online games (read as: chat rooms for slow typists) know this phenomenon well.

They say that most suicide attempts are thinly-disguised cries for help. Well, where better to direct those cries than to a bunch of people who have nothing better to do than log on, chat and hang on your every word?

And you think it's about time that you died
And I agree
So you decide on suicide
You tried but you never quite carried it out
You only wanted to die in order to show off
And if you think you're gonna bleed all over me
You're even wronger than you'd normally be

Well .... actually a cry for help would be someone actually saying help ...

True, not all people who attempt suicide actually intend to die. Some of those people do.

For the ones who make a serious attempt and surivive? Chances are that they will try again. Probably within the next year (often within two weeks of discharge from a hospitalization.)

If someone REALLY wants to die, no amount of intervention will stop them.
