Somehow I missed this

What's the most translated document in the world? It's not the Bible, it's . . .

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document conceived by the UN after World War II.

Quote:

Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction.
Although I'm interested in human rights, I'm not sure I've ever head of this document, or maybe it just didn't impinge on my consciousness when I was learning about it. Here's the WikiP entry on it, too:

note that the WikiP article includes criticism of the document by certain segments of society. Gee, the Muslims don't seem to care for it much . . . because then they'd have to acknowledge rights of freedom of religion and gender equality. Go figure.

Do you think it's the most translated because the UN paid to have it printed in every conceivable tongue?

and they have all those staff translators handy.

to clarify, it wasn't the translated stat I missed, it was the existence of the document itself

Don't feel bad, the UN puts out lots of stuff nobody knows about. :haha:

Don't worry about the document Cloud, no one is actually using it. ;)
