South Park in Islam's sights

Christians, Jews, Hindus and other religions might not be happy about their holy images being degraded or mocked, but they deal with it. Not Islam. Sure...it's a PEACEFUL religion.

I knew this was going to happen as soon as i saw the episode the other day.

dmg1969 04-22-2010 11:57 AM

I don't watch it anymore...just saw it on the news.

And I want to know how the police don't consider it a threat that these people post on their message board that they (the creators of S.P.) will probably wind up like Theo Van Gohg (ie: dead) for airing it.

Should we kill those who defile the name or image of Jesus Christ or the Virgin Mary? I'm not overly religious, but I get offended when someone smears feces on an image of the Virgin Mary and calls it art. Should the exhibit be boycotted? Yes. Should someone threaten to kill the artist? No.

Get over it Islam.

The funniest bit is, even though they don't show Muhammed in the episodes about showing him, he has been shown in at least one episode, and the opening credits of several seasons.

Cloud 04-22-2010 01:14 PM

that death threat was against someone making a documentary about how Islam mistreats its women.

the noive!

I mentioned this episode here.

I'm very disappointed that Comedy Central decided to fear terrorists and extremists.

On Wednesday, the conclusion of the two-part story involving the Prophet Mohammed was shown with a number of audio spots covered by bleeps and images hidden by a block reading "CENSORED." Though "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have had fun with censorship in the past - including in part one of the Mohammed story, which involved free speech issues - apparently this time much of the censorship came from Comedy Central itself.
"Comedy Central was responsible for the bleeps and not showing Mohammed in last night’s episode," a spokesperson for the network told CNN.
Way to stand up to them, ya lily-livered cowards.

As an artist I'm offended. But I got over it.

I'm more offended when people let their dogs shit on my lawn. That pisses me off. You can crack jokes and make fun of my religion, it doesn't bother me in the least. I don't need anyone to respect my religion to validate it for me, and thier disrespect doesn't invalidate it either.

Fundies of all stripes the Muslims and the Xtians, need to take themselves and their beliefs a lot less seriously.

Your beliefs will really be challenged when someone's dog takes a shit on your lawn in the shape of the Virgin Mary. Is it a sign from God? Is it art?

These are the defining moments that shape a person.
It is said that one cannot truly obtain the status of "unstoppable killing machine" until they have stared down the barrel of questions like these.

My new unstoppable killing machine technique is unstoppable.

There is a zen koan involving shit, I just can't recall it right now.

Flint 04-22-2010 03:45 PM

I feel ya, dawg. I can't recall shit about shit either, most days.

Maybe we could just get them to start to kill each other off. That would make life a little more bareable.

Griff 04-22-2010 05:18 PM

They always seem to find a way to drag the rest of us into it...

TheMercenary 04-22-2010 05:19 PM

We have to resist. I am all for letting them go at each other. Leave us out of it. Those who want to join the fight would do so at their own peril. Idiots.

Hmm. Mr. Clod and I were discussing this last night, and we'd come to the conclusion that Trey Parker and Matt Stone had known all along that episode 1 would cause an uproar, and that the plan was to bleep everything in episode 2 from the beginning. Especially the ending where they bleeped the "moral" of the story.

Nonetheless, the non-Mohammed portions of both episodes were pretty freaking hysterical.

Seriously. As long as we're not collateral damage, I'm all for it and would even have a bake sale to raise money.
