Trivia

My mind is filled with all kinds of useless information. It makes my kids eyes roll when I launch into one of these verbal sidebars, but it does make me a reasonably entertaining conversationalist.

Here's one that I did not have stuffed in my cranium before today. But I saw something that made me wonder about it -- and god bless the interwebs:

What Sort of Tea Was Thrown into Boston Harbor?

"Labaree’s Table IV has the exact answer to my question above: the three tea ships at Boston contained 240 chests of Bohea, 15 of Congou, 10 of Souchong (all black teas), 60 of Singlo, and 15 of Hyson (both green teas)."

Clodfobble 05-27-2010 02:23 PM

Huh. I've never heard of any of those teas.

classicman 05-27-2010 02:40 PM

dunno but after it was tossed - it was shi-tea.

All but Singlo are still available. You won't find them on the shelf of your local grocery (unless your local grocery is a Whole Foods), but they are still available through tea companies.

There's some Hyson in Prince of Wales, a Twinnings blend. It was while looking up what was in it that I got started on the Tea Party thing.

I know that the name of the Looney Tunes catoons was titled "The Merrygoround Broke Down". Don't know why I know this.

C'mon? Not even Lapsang Souchong? An awesome tea. The leaves are smoked/cured over smoldering pine branches.

It's like you are camping out every time you drink it, "good for those rainy mornings..." (snicker)

Start at 4:34, for some reason &start=4m34s didn't work

You can just lick an ashtray to get the same flavor... :yeldead:

Lapsang souchong is as interesting to drink as whisky, flavourwise. Lovely and smokey ...

Mmmmm. Lapsang souchong!
I make a blend involving Ceylon, Lapsang and a pinch of Jasmine.

Really, quite tasty.
