Burning Fat
best way to burn fat?
i hate running, and would much rather swim. but i hear swimming is NOT the best way to burn fat. What works for Dwellars? |

These three things in tandem work FANTASTICALLY:
Not eating due to: 1). Anxiety. 2). Living in a house with a disgusting kitchen that had I cleaned it would have led to World War 3. 3).Not having any cash for anything other than the absolute necessities. |
Mountain biking and fencing are working for me. It also seems like if you do your eating right after working out your metabolism stays high so you keep burning fuel/fat. Long periods of rigorous activity seem best so it has to be something you enjoy. Maybe you could get your heart rate up on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes and then hit the pool?

Stress is the truth and a diet of mostly just cigarettes and coffee. I dropped almost 20 pounds in one month doing that.

[High intensity] Interval training. This can be any cardio activity, swimming, jumping jacks, biking, even walking if the hill is steep/stairs are steep enough.

Jinx, I've been doing that for about a month now. The first 15 minutes I do a brisk walk while doing various arm exercises with weights. Then I alternate brisk walks and speed walks with jogs and sprints for a half hour (in one minute intervals each). Then I cool down by starting with a very fast speed walk and gradually moving to a slow walk for 15 minutes. I have lost one pound in all that time. Now I'm sure I've gained some muscle mass that accounts for that since I was pretty much a total sloth for the last 6 months, and my shape has changed a bit, but so far I haven't seen much reduction in my fat deposits (butt and thighs), which is all I'm trying to do at this point - I only weigh 110 lbs. I haven't changed my diet a lot because I have always eaten healthily and moderately. So, I'm kinda disappointed with the results. I will keep on keeping on, even though.

Have you had a target heart rate assessment done by someone who knows what they're doing, to determine your zones and how long you should be in them?
I did, but don't follow it. I was 111.2 yesterday, down from 118 about a month ago. |
I don't know. My body seems like and hang onto its BMI rating of 25 no matter what.

No Jinx, but I did figure it out by going on line. Not that it is useful to me - I suck at monitoring my heart rate while I exercise. I mostly just judge the intensity by my breathing. I have recently increased the speed of my jog/runs from 4 and 4.5 to 5 and 5.5 and sometimes 6, because I noticed my endurance improved. I'm pretty jealous of your 7lb weight loss! I'm figuring that being middle aged (48) and post menopausal is working against me.

I manage it through diet, combined with short, intense bursts of wrestling and brute strength. But the diet did more than the muscle usage, for sure.
