tidying up itunes

I am trying out TidySongs to see if it can help clear out some of the 2000 duplicate songs I have and find ID for another 1800 "track 01" songs.

I'll report back.

casimendocina 11-15-2010 01:29 AM

Do that.

HungLikeJesus 11-15-2010 07:27 AM

When you're done, can you do mine?

footfootfoot 11-15-2010 08:52 AM

Had some problems with tidysongs so I am trying tuneup comapnion. IT is working a little better but is still slower than death

jimhelm 11-15-2010 12:52 PM

WELL?

Cloud 11-15-2010 12:55 PM

how did you get 2000 duplicates?

Spexxvet 11-15-2010 01:53 PM

1,000 songs, ripped twice.

That's why it's called "coma-pnion," which means slower than death.

I thought it was death with an onion.

Jury is still out. I may have to buy the damned software to try all of its purported features. The trial is hobbled.

upon closer inspection I have 8080 dupes. That happens when you rip cds twice by accident, when you accidentally add your backup drive to your music library, when your friend comes over to help you clean up your computer and ends up leaving a bunch of music behind, there are lots of ways.

Don't mock the afflicted. I know, I know it should be coma-pñon but I was too lazy to look up the alt key.

Making room for all those Beatles songs you can but from iTunes?

footfootfoot 11-17-2010 05:39 PM

tidysongs pretty much blows donkeys. The trial version gives you 50 free "clean ups" and I did 28. 28 songs out of 28, all with a 99% confidence level, were wrong. They were so far out as to confuse Chet Baker with A.Z. and some unknown electronica group with "The Band."

They do have an undo feature which I thought was nice except it only undid the renaming of the tracks, not the erroneous album name, group name, and album art. The other problem was that every unknown song that had been "Track 01" became "bonus track." After the undo "Bonus Track" became "Unknown Track."

So, on a scale from 1 to 10, I would say the software is a big, steamy pile of shit.

Maybe I will try tuneup media.

I've been doing this by hand. I am trying a file renamer to tag sets of music acquired at different rates, etc. and I will report back on that. My idea is that this thing can be used to identify different categories of music by key characters in the filename, while I drag them all together and eliminate dupes one at a time.

Reading back through that it probably doesn't make any sense...

HUH?

I just had dinner with the 25 yo son of a friend. He is a programmer and he told me I should learn to write software. "It's easy, you'd be good at it."

Why do so many people tell me that? What makes one good at writing software?

Anyway, his idea is to come over and teach me to write software some afternoon. (I'm like, wtf?)
