Obama's State of the Union - what do you think ?
So what parts of the speech did you like or not like, did you think will help or not help ?
To start this thread, I'll just mention something important to me. Obama linked the repeal of DADT to the return of ROTC on university and college campuses. It's a small change, but I believe it's the way we will gradually eliminate this form of discrimination from our society. What was important for you ? |
How about some fact checking....
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/FACT-C....html?x=0&.v=2 I would support suspending all federal funding for any university that prevents ROTC or military recruiting on campus, regardless of DADT. |
I liked the fact that the two parties sat intermingled. I wish they would always do that. The applause was less subdued overall, because there wasn't that groupthink mentality where each party acted as a pact. People seemed to react like individuals. And there wasn't the obvious visible divide like there usually is in those speeches.
|
I get the feeling though, that it really did not make a difference that they sat together. When they go back to work it will be the typical stuff of throwing barbs at each other based on party. I really wish the Republickins had won the Senate, but not by a super majority, then they would have been forced to work together. The whole sitting together just struck me as a kum-bya gimick.

Overall, it means nothing, but for the speech it was nice. The speech means nothing too, so you might as well make it a nice television moment.
Plus there's this idea of "fake it until you make it" where you pretend to be something and then you become it. I'm fine with forced kumbayah moments. There should be more of them. |
It was too busy at the nuthouse. I am hoping to grab a transcript and will see about translating the doublespeak.

My daughter is in JROTC.
Not that it's related in any way--I'm just proud and wanted to say it :) |
