It's like this: if someone truly wants to be a member of the community, we will tolerate their foibles, in the spirit of fellowship. I know you tolerate mine. But if someone wants to play games or test us for their own (sociopathic) reasons, we cannot tolerate that, as it kills that spirit.

I had it on ignore.
It posted a genuine reaction to my Grandad's death, so I felt I couldn't rage against it.

I like your characterization of plural Pams. I think that's fitting. Whether they were one physical person or more, whether they were intentional multiples or more, it's possible to treat them and their posts, their foibles individually. That was how I coped, dealing rationally with the rational posts, and trying to let the shit slide by without picking it up and flinging it back. Ew, nasty.

There were many different effective strategies available to deal with the kerfuffle ignited and fueled by the Pams, this is one, wolf suggested another earlier, Sundae had applied another. This one is fine. Thanks again for your generous gift of the cellar to all of us, and thanks for taking care of it.

I felt sorry for the Pam's - obviously serious mental issues going on with her. Deep down she can't be a very happy person. That said, she had no business on the Cellar. She just irritated everyone to no benefit - least of all her own.

OH hell, I have to say it.

No, the only effective strategy was to ignore the fucking troll. Every response from "Oh, trolls are people too this might really be a troubled little girl who really needs our love and compassion" to "fuck you pam bitch liar fool" to phone numbers to jumping up and pointing out every fucking obvious flaw in this troll's story: every single one of you fanned this fire. (Not the mods or UT or those who did what I did...stayed the fuck out of it.)

there are several ways to deal effectively with the situation. You, infinite monkey, name one, ignoring it. UT names another, banning. This shows two, not "only one", ways to deal effectively with the situation.

It takes a VILLAGE to ignore the troll. The ONLY thing that keeps the troll going is the attention. ANY kind of attention. So you feed it and feed it and feed it...for what...HUNDREDS of posts?
