Keep pulling that ripcord

Sage advice from the congenial comic Larry Miller. Particularly on point for those of us in middle age and staring at the bottom. Ending with how great it is to share such things. So I excerpted it and YouTubered it.

Well, I needed that today.

I'm pulling, I'm pulling. :)

Cool.
I like the story because of the context. The protagonist is in a situation where he has no option but to repeat an action and hope.

One of my faves was John Mortimer's introduction to his autobiography, in which he explained the title of his book. I can't find the exact quote, but it's along the lines of this: I had a conversation with an old sailor and he told me that he couldn't swim. Never could and wouldn't learn. Why? Because when a ship went down, those that could swim did - striking out however far away the shore looked. But in the end the survivors were those who stayed with the ship, those Clinging to the Wreckage.

And he knew that had to be the title of his book, as it was how he had lived his life.

Although in fact it wasn't true. He was exceptionally intelligent, worked very hard and had a rich and rewarding life because of it. His success might have had a right place, right time flavour on occasion, but it was never due to inertia.

Most people have no frigging clue what "ripcord" is, or how important it may be to your current existence.

Stop hating, people are smarter than you think.

Thanks for sharing that, UT. I like it!

It means something to me.

Telling stories is how we keep ourselves alive, I think.

Literature/stories/cartoons/doodles/graffiti - all of it has helped keep me alive at one point or another.

Sorry about the edit, but I missed the window for edit.

But holy shit! Where the fuck do you get off judging me with a comment like that?!!! Hate? Are you kidding me?

How about we drag up your hateful comments? There was nothing about what I stated that was hateful. Please explain yourself.

Really? Damm did I mention Jesus my gardener?

That is silly. Show me the "Hate".

Come on, man. What emotion would you say this indicates? Maybe not all-out hatred, but certainly well-entrenched contempt. I'm sure your tone in person would be jovial, but you gotta realize words mean something. You're so used to dismissing the majority of humanity as idiots, you don't even realize you're doing it.
