Student attacked and beaten by 7 other on video

WTF do you do with people who act this way? :mad2:

Apparently some of them were arrested.

Police were questioning six teens about the beating and kicking of a 17-year-old high school senior in a Bridgeport alley that was captured on video and posted on the Internet.

In a brief statement, police said the attack did not appear to be racially motivated and that no charges have been filed.

The video -- posted on You Tube -- shows the 17-year-old victim coiled on the ground in the alley, pleading in vain for the youths to stop.

In the attack, which lasted for several minutes Sunday afternoon, the boy covers his face as the other youths surround him and push him into the snow while kicking and punching his head, his legs, his back.

The attackers yell that the boy had "(expletive) up."

"Hold on," the teen says as he pulls himself to his feet and tries to talk them into stopping.

But one of the attackers, wearing gray sweats, asks: "Do you (expletive) understand?" He then punches the boy in the face and knocks him to the ground, then kicks him in the face, sending the boy sprawling on the snow-covered ground.

One of the youths took shoes out of the victim's backpack, dangling one of them in front of his face in a taunt. They also took his wallet and $180 in cash, police said.

The boy was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he was treated for a laceration to his lip, bruises and abrasions, police said.

The boy is a senior at Curie High School on the Southwest Side, according to a Chicago Public Schools spokesman.

i would hunt them down individually and HURT them :(

piercehawkeye45 01-17-2012 11:19 PM

Those seven would get eaten alive in jail. Bring them there for a while.

monster 01-17-2012 11:29 PM

Um.... it's a fake.

maybe it went too far and the kid needed stitches, but how in the hell does a 7 -on-1last over three minutes and get such good video coverage? they were posturing. They were youtubing.

No wonder no charges so far.

classicman 01-18-2012 12:04 AM

I disagree (shock)

We'll see. I appears that names, numbers and addresses are being posted on the attackers now.
It is also being reported that most of the assailants were Asian as well; ruling out a racially motivated crime.

That really doesn't look fake. Fights like that happen around here all the time, and are routinely video'd by their friends or bystanders.

“We’re pretty confident that we’ve got the makings of wrapping this thing up,” McCarthy said. “We’ve got six people in custody. We’ve got two more people identified, who we’re out looking for right now.”

McCarthy said the attack was not racially motivated, but was in retaliation for an earlier incident, in which 20 people attacked two teens.

“It appears to be retaliation for a previous assault. We’re confident that we’ve got the right people in custody. We think that we’ll be charging them very shortly.”

“This isn’t new, unfortunately. This is a dynamic that’s been going on for a while,” McCarthy said. “Almost common, let’s put it that way. We just had an incident with a homeless getting man knocked out on a train platform, right? We were able to make arrests on that very quickly, but it’s the same exact thing. They did it on purpose, they taped it on purpose and then they put it up on YouTube.”

Asked if that’s just an invitation taunting police to find the suspects, McCarthy said, “I don’t think they think in those terms, I don’t. I think they’re thinking, you know, ‘Let’s brag about this crazy stupid thing that we’re doing.’”

“Looking at these kids, you think they know what consequence means, quite frankly?” McCarthy added. “I don’t think they know what consequences are.”

McCarthy said charges will come shortly against the six suspects now being held, and the other two wanted people are expected to surrender.

There were some incidents similar to this one where school students would record other students being beaten up and then put it up on youtube.

The solution ended up being that if kids were seen in these sorts of video's, whether they were the attackers or just bystanders, were expelled. There haven't been any more recently.

That's not to say it's not still happening, but just out of school uniforms, although i think the incidence has really dropped after a huge amount of publicity in the media about it.

I really believe there should be (if there isn't already) some kind of task force in the police to deal with this kind of behaviour. It's just disgusting.

No necessarily. "Asian" is very broad. Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans are quite capable of mutual racism.

idiots, what where they thinking? ganging up on him was one thing but recording it?

there's really no shock value here, find a boy hasn't gone through highschool without getting bullied and/or bullling? chances are that he was extremely lucky to slip between the cracks and chances are it means he saw a lot without getting involved. with the rare exceptions, this is just part of highschool life: girls give each other eating disorders and boys beat the crap out of each other, not always but for the most part these stereotypes exist because every highschool in the history of public education has strenghened them.

I don't think so. This is a local story. The word is that the person taking the video was part of the group doing the attack.

I agree - I was paraphrasing the articles as I was reading them.
I think the implication was that it wasn't a black/white/asian/red/gold/star/ type of racism ;)

Sounds like they were following Zip's advice.
