On the last Monday of May, Americans honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day and was first observed in Waterloo, NY, in 1861. It became an official federal holiday in 1971.

I've always loved that tradition, the tomb of an unknown soldier to act as an every soldier for all those lost to the mud.
