2 Trust or Not 2 Trust: That is the Question.

I don't think I'm a very trust worthy person to be honest with you. But at the same time I don't think I am really capable of doing to much harm. Maybe I have a lying spirit, and yes I have told lies. However when the shiznt hits the fan I usually come clean and I am not going to do anything to bring myself into harms way. In other words I'm smarter than a crook, and smarter than your average con artist... At-least smart enough not to commit crimes that will end me up in prison. So if I had to rate myself on a level of 1-10 how trust worthy am I.. 10 being the best I'd rate myself a 5. How bout YOU, how trust worthy do you think you are??

Spexxvet 05-30-2012 02:11 PM

I'm a 10. Trust me.

JBKlyde 05-30-2012 02:19 PM

Could you expand on that and lets us know why your a 10 and why we should trust you...

glatt 05-30-2012 02:30 PM

Everyone lies. It's human nature.

I'm lying right now.

JBKlyde 05-30-2012 02:48 PM

so you rate yourself a zero??

Undertoad 05-30-2012 03:36 PM

I can be trusted to let people down. 5.

The ability to lie and fictionalise the world around us for our own ends is a massively useful skill.

The truth may well set us free, but deceit makes the world a kinder as well as a crueller world. Context and intent are all important.

Sitting in someone's house whilst they tell you about a problem they're hoping you can help them with, drinking tea with floating grease spots from a cup that looks like it was 'cleaned' on someone's shirt, and they ask you if your drink's ok. do you tell the truth and hurt their feelings, or lie and say it's lovely.

Surely trust and trustworthiness aren't just about lying. I'm sure you know honest people that you wouldn't trust with anything important to you, perhaps a treasured possession or your family, and maybe vice-versa too.
