October 17, 2012 - Angler Fish

In honor of the 3D version of Finding Nemo that was recently in theaters in the states, I bring you this Deep Sea Angler Fish:

Our lighted friend is made of recycled materials from a bicycle, scoop shovel, knives, and more. He's a fairly big 5' tall x 4' wide x 5' long.

The dangling light is always on and when you get near our guy his motion-detecting eyes and body light up. Pretty cool.

Discovered in Don't Panic and listed for sale at Etsy for a mere $8k.

Needs more cow bell. Wait. It HAS a cow bell.

Really cool. I'd like it.

The above two posts were both hilarious and informational.

A+

The motion sensor should trigger the jaw to snap shut.

If this is how you're thinking, and I like how you're thinking, *I* think the "off switch" should be prominently visible in the back of mouth. Off, get it?

On a different note, I love this piece of art. Stuff like this makes me wish I had welding skills/tools. To the welders in the room, what kind of equipment is needed for this kind of work? I am interested, but still at the information gathering stage. Is it small-ish? gas or electric? Harbor Freight or pawnshop or craigslist?

You can use any junker "buzz box" for something like that. You just need to practice a bit first. You could use gas or electric. Electric is probably cheaper to get into because you don't need gas bottles.
