DOES THE X-FILES GET BETTER?

did The X-files get good? I remember it was all the rage and I got the first disc from the 'brary and, I gotta say, it bored the pants off me. Not Amish pants, just virtual pants.

So maybe I should stick with? I dunno. Maybe it was a 'for its time' thing.

Then again it took me a thousand years to watch Twin Peaks and I loved it, until the end when I was like WTF WAS THAT IT?

Happy Monkey 05-01-2013 10:41 AM

It gets good, and then it gets bad.

But when it's good, it's good.

infinite monkey 05-01-2013 10:47 AM

Like me! :)

When I'm good, I'm very good. When I'm bad, I'm better.

Thanks...I may keep trying to watch.

User title!

(I'm just going to suggest a new user title each day from one of your posts.)

infinite monkey 05-01-2013 10:55 AM

heeheee..I'll put them on backlog. I change my usertitle a lot.

What year was the first season? I remember watching that and Star Trek next gen during the time when jinx and I lived at my mom's after Tour. That was 1991-92 iirc... It was the best thing on at the time. But then, I remember really liking Night Court... And that just blows.

Funny how some shows hold up, and some don't.

infinite monkey 05-01-2013 11:05 AM

I loved Night Court too, and think it blows now, too.

But I rewatched The White Shadow and it was as good as I remembered.

I wonder what shows I love now I'll hate in 15 years?

Check you out!
So many user-titles I'm frightened to use them.

I'm the wrong person to ask.
I think the X-Files peaked in seasons 2-3, when the chaps had settled into their roles and most episodes were stand-alone.
I never got off on the whole Conspiracy Theory thing.
In fact I think we got the money back for our tickets for X-Files the Movie. Because there were people in our seats rather than because the movie was pants. But it was. (Disclaimer - the getting money back thing was real, but I cannot in all honesty be sure about which film it was for.)
Best thing about the X-Files for me?
I had a Mulder and Scully trading card, which I had blue-tacked to my monitor at work because I liked the shot.
The IT guys treated me as one of their own, and somehow I would always get someone come see me the same day if I had computer problems. Even the switch-it-off-and-switch-it-on-again type. Yeah, I also wore Star Trek Academy jogging bottoms on dress down Fridays :)

No, I'm not manipulative - I made friends with many of these men.
But yes I did milk the "I'm not a geek but I understand them and maybe you could teach me" angle. Ummm, yes I was manipulative.

You know what?
Forget the X-Files, It's out-dated now. The tech side will make you laugh.
Watch Being Human. UK or US version.

If you like Ford Tauruses, X-Files is the show for you!

infinite monkey 05-01-2013 12:58 PM

Ford Tauruses?

Sundae: Yeah, I'm not sure I'm going to keep trying to watch. I guess it's not really my cup of tea.

But I started thinking about BNL's One Week where they say:

Watchin' X-files with no lights on
We're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one

And I saw in the pilot credit: Smoking Man played by Joe Schmoe.

HUH? WTF is a Smoking Man? Does he just sit there and smoke in some episodes, and you're supposed to be all like "Oh...I found the Smoking Man!" Is he like Waldo? Or maybe it's like finding the bunny on every Playboy cover? (My BFF in HS's dad got the mag and we always looked for the bunny on the cover.)

Happy Monkey 05-01-2013 01:53 PM

At some point, they are always driving around in Ford Tauruses.

Anyway, Smoking Man is an unnamed high-level conspirator, who is always smoking a cigarette.

infinite monkey 05-01-2013 01:58 PM

At first I read that as "a high level computer" and all I could think was "Rosebud was a SLED!"

Tooms was awesome (two parter) and so was that one with the mystery of the vanished tribe.

Sundae 05-01-2013 03:04 PM

Oh. Sorry.
I found the Vanished Tribe.

Under my right boob.
No wonder it was itching.

I think the Tooms story won some kind of award.

There is an over, or maybe under arching story to the X-files that carries through the whole thing, this is where Cancer man comes in, personally I didn't care for that part of it so much, some of the episodes focus on advancing this storyline, and some are stand alone stories about weird stuff i.e. Tooms, many of which were excellent.

Theres a funny one with Burt Reynolds in from the later series.
