Thank goodness I'm 4 stone lighter than last year, I'm really noticing the difference.

You have to remember though Choco, BigV lives in Seattle where most places have no air conditioning (at least they didn't back when I visited in the early nineties.)

But still... we keep our house at 78 in the summer, V. :)

I have a box fan, two window fans and a ceiling fan.

And a freezer full of ice and icy treats. 80 F is hot, 107 is the all time gone to hell and caught fire high. I don't actually know anyone who owns an air conditioner that isn't built into a car.

A friend of mine said that he'd left 2 of the new polymer $20 Cdn bills in his cars glove box today, and they melted together. is that even possible?

We're having a horrible heatwave here.
It has been up to 32 now (90), although I accept that Foot posted it was 90 when the temp came down :thepain:.

I start my training on Monday, and my full job on Thursday 8 August. Weather predictions are that this record-breaking run of heat will not be done by then.
My uniform is long sleeved shirt (although it can be fastened to short sleeve that means doubling the material), apron and trousers, full cover shoes. Okay I'll be working in air conditioned stores, but getting there and getting back is gonna be sweaty.

The good thing is once I start, I have three days a week from 06.30. Probably the coollest time of day.
The bad thing is, it's so freaking hot at night I can barely sleep, passing into a stupor at about 03.30 only to have Diz jump on my head at 04.45.

All I can hope is that I'll be so knackered with my new schedule, I'll pass out sparko whatever the heat. I don't hold much hope for this idea though, I've had trouble sleeping all my life and even as an active child I couldn't sleep in the heat.

Sigh.

The media are bored with saying how hot it is. They've moved onto saying, "Oh people are complaining about the heat, some people are never happy!" Yes. Yes I am. I love the Autumn and Winter and early Spring. The only reason I moan then is because other people turn the heating up. Give me a cold place and an extra pair of socks.

We move to the ranges again tomorrow morning. Oh what fun we shall have. LOL

The thing to remember about heat over here, aside from the fact we're just not used to it as a nation and therefore most homes and even businesses don't have air conditioning, is that it is a very humid heat.

I remember going to the south of France when I was a kid, when they were in the middle of a really bad drought. It was baking hot, but it didn't make me feel ill like it did/does here when it gets hot.

I went to the bakery around 12:30 and it was just too much. Had to spy my moment when there was a bit of a breeze to take Carrotchops out. Poor lamb. Even with his fur shaved almost to the skin, he's still too hot.

The electric fan has been pulling double shifts and I've been moving it around from room to room as I go :P

I did have a few really bad days eczema-wise from the heat, but *touch wood* it seems not to be building to anything nasty. Hopefully. I mainly stay indoors with the window open and the fan going, other than the obligatory dog walks, shop trips and the *coughs* FOUR FUCKING HOURS spent on superheated buses yesterday going to and from the dentists in Leeds.

Someone asked me how I was the other day. I said, I'm fine....too hot though :p They're like: can't complain about the heat now, not after the winter we've just had.

I thought....yeah, ok, but it's really no fun for the likes of me :p Until evening. Late evening, when the temperature drops a touch, but it's still light in the sky and there's a barbeque on the go, or I'm strolling quietly round the village with mah homedog. That's lovely.

Getting up at the crack of dawn to walk Carrot before the heat sets, in not so much.

See: first time since 2006 that we've had more than 6 consecutive days above 86f. So, little need as a country to gear up for serious heat on the whole. Therefore when it does hit us, it hits hard. We just don't have the responses to it that would allow us to cope comfortably. A possible death toll of 900 people in the UK across 6 days of temperatures that hotter countries take in their stride.

Whoah. That some serious heatstuffs right there.
