Today's Roller Coaster Ride

was experienced vicariously through my daughter

She passed her driving test. I lost years being nervous for her
Then she didn't get elected swim team captain
Then she met Betsy Armstrong, touched the medals and got her swim bag signed.

Sadly, I was about to launder the bag because it stinks like hell. Now I can't. EVER. Quick, everyone, buy shares in Febreze before I hit the stores.....

And that's the way it goes. Sometimes Febreeze saves the day.
Glad your daughter met a hero.

I wonder how well baking soda would work.

I read an article a few months ago that touched on the history of Febreeze's advertising. The gist of it was that Febreeze used to be odorless, and purely a product to remove existing odor. It was a huge flop because A) there was no part in people's cleaning routines for "going around spraying shit that you just cleaned" and B) everyone is accustomed to how they smell.

So they re-worked their advertising to include showing people going around spraying febreeze after they made the bed, cleaned the bathroom, etc; and they added scents, so you knew when it was there and when it wasn't.

That's interesting. I used to love Febreze but hate it now. I thought I was the only one who noticed what they did.

Yes, Baking Soda is actually going to be my first port of call. Seriously, though, I was about to soak it in oxyclean and chuck it in the washer -it almost smells as bad as a hockey bag!

If you get hot enough days, just leaving it out in the sun should help.

Or the back porch with air moving about. We keep all our coats out there. The smell is heavenly after a couple of days. --I too wanna barf, smelling Febreeze. There's this 'after smell' that gets in my throat.. ugh

Rub dryer sheets on it

There seems to be some confusion here about available hours for "airing" (goes to pool 7:15am, returns by 11am if lucky, leaves again at 2:30 home maybe 6pm............

I think there is a fabric product ('fixxer' of some type) that you can spray on the bag, to permanently protect the autograph when washing.

Check out a craft, and/or fabric/sewing supplies store.

get a new bag, retire that one to the hall of fame.
