Guardians of the Galaxy
Just saw it in the theater. A+++++ would do business with again.
Peter Serafinowicz is in it! And Stan Lee has a cameo. Also, I didn't know it before but apparently Chris Pratt can bend me over anytime he likes. And I want a dancing Groot of my very own. |
I saw it on vacation. They nailed it even found something in my eye, you know when. They hit just the right tone. I am Groot.

There were so many memorable scenes, and the characters were so much fun. Lots of highlights for me, but my favorite scene in the whole movie is when they are having a meeting, going over the serious plan for the final climactic battle, and Chris Pratt asks Drax some question about an important detail of the plan, and Drax was like "Huh? I was just thinking about something else." Not paying attention at all.
It's such a stupid little thing, but so genuine, because it reminds me of so many meetings where I find myself thinking about some stupid fleeting thought instead of paying attention. It was completely trivial to the plot, and they moved right along, not lingering on it, but it was so genuine. The movie was full of lines like that. It made me wonder how a movie like that gets made. I'm sure everyone that makes a movie wants that movie to be good. But there is some special magic that occurs in some movies, and not in others. You could take that exact same line and stick it in another movie, and it would seem stupid. But here, it was great. |
My favorite bit was the prosthetic leg. Because it's a clever movie, you know, and I wanted to be cleverer, and I sat there trying so hard to figure out what crazy funny explanation they were going to come up with, and then... well, you know.
I think all the great lines come down to great casting. Delivery really is everything. I once heard a quip that the director's entire job (referring in this case to theater, but I think it applies to movies too) was making up for casting mistakes. Cast it right in the first place, and you almost don't need a director. |
*chuckle* yeah. That was a great bit too. I'm smiling just thinking about it.

Is he really? I didn't know. Well - defo have to watch it now ;) |
Is it worth paying to see on the big screen?
|
I think it's worth it. It's your typical movie from a visual point of view, not particularly scenic or anything, but seeing it with an audience would be good.
The kids would like it. |
Yeah, I'm with glatt on this it isn't the block buster that needs a huge screen to be impressive, but it is a lot of fun and I'd watch it on the big screen again.

I love your review, although Chris Pratt for me is meh. But Vin Diesel, now, even as only a voice ... don't give me a dancing Groot, give me ... never mind. If I have a thing for sexy bald men, what of it? I loved this movie and will def go back and see it again before it leaves the big screen. It was so much fun. I loved the wit and the unexpected jokes (the prosthetic leg), and the casual attitude. And ridiculously skinny Zoe Saldana. |
I admit it's weird, Chris Pratt isn't my type. Humor is always a big plus of course, but I think it might have been the dancing scenes that put him on top. ;)
