There’s a Statistic for That

Quote:

When 2,000 people take a daily aspirin for 2 years: 1 heart attack is prevented.

When 30 heart attack survivors switch to a mediterranean diet for 4 years: 1 death is prevented.

When 8 People suffering from an Asthma attack are treated with steroids: 1 hospital admission is prevented.

When 15 people take antibiotics for a sinus infection: 1 will improve.
Do you think you're that one, Punk? Well do ya? :magnum:

N.Y. Times.

That aspirin claim is the only one that affects me.
Is it, and the others, true?
1.4 million pills.
I think visiting the Cellar everyday might be as useful.

Aspirin is also for strokes; I wonder what those numbers are.

3 strokes and you're out

Maybe for the teens, but men in their 30s need a little more work.

Yes, and men in their 50s also need more than a lick and a promise.

Good question, thanks to the internet you can find someone expounding every possible answer to any possible question. I use to think things like the baby aspirin a day was in the might help, can't hurt, category. But the more I learn about medications, what I've been saying to others is finally sinking into my own thick skull... everything, even, aspirin, has side effects, everything.

Is there nothing in this world that stays the same ?

The U.S. government is poised to withdraw longstanding warnings about cholesterol
Washington Post - Peter Whoriskey - February 10,2015
Quote:

The nation’s top nutrition advisory panel has decided to drop its caution about eating cholesterol-laden food,
a move that could undo almost 40 years of government warnings about its consumption.

The group’s finding that cholesterol in the diet need no longer be considered a “nutrient of concern” stands
in contrast to the committee’s findings five years ago, the last time it convened.

During those proceedings, as in previous years, the panel deemed the issue of
excess cholesterol in the American diet a public health concern.
<snip>
Cholesterol has been a fixture in dietary warnings in the United States at least since 1961,
when it appeared in guidelines developed by the American Heart Association.

Later adopted by the federal government, such warnings helped shift eating habits
-- per capita egg consumption dropped about 30 percent -- and harmed egg farmers.
I find that last sentence hanging in the back of my mind... which industry does this decision help or hurt ?

Yeah, that is troubling. But I think those meddling Brits are to blame for all these changes. ;)
