Cloud storage
Which do you use (poll) and why (post).

Amazon.
It was free with the purchase of a wifi router (1 year). Plus, my brother, a silicon Valley guy, has used it for a few years and liked it. I'm still getting used to the interface and am not sure how I feel about it. |
I'm on a PC now and see this was a poll. Tapatalk didn't show me that.
Let me also say that I've used Google Drive when trying to send a very large attachment by Gmail, and Gmail has steered me to Google Drive to upload the item and send a link instead of sending an attachment. That has worked easily. I like how I use Google for other stuff, and the Google Drive is integrated in with that. I haven't gone beyond the free stuff they offer. At work, we use Accellion to transfer massive highly confidential files. It's easy to use, but I don't know how it is set up behind the scenes or what makes it tick. Is it our company's server, or a 3rd party cloud server? I don't know. |
G drive , its free, easy , and accessible from most any were

Google Drive

I use google drive for lots of documents, but One drive for backup storage, I caught some offer where I got 100G free for a year, so I used it as an extra storage for our photos while transferring computers. It's a backup of a backup so when the time limit expires I'll just let it go.

I guess that's how they suck you in. |
I don't use the iCloud. I don't want my computer anymore screwed up than it all ready is.

I generally just keep them in the sky but if they start taking up too much room or piling up then they block out a lot of sunlight so I just convert them into water which takes up much less space. Things can get tricky in the winter as they seem to take up just as much space when they are frozen as they do in the sky.
Still in beta, I guess. |
I use Dropbox for incidental stuff because early on a client asked me to use it for delivering finished audio files to them, so I already had it on my system. Mr. Clod uses something called Mojo (I think) as an automated backup of his main machine, which includes all our family photos and is quite a lot of gigs. Sometimes we talk about getting the photos over to a different site like Flickr, and getting a smaller account with Mojo (I don't know how much we pay for it) but we never want to do the work.

SpiderOak.
Best synching tool I've seen from the big providers. Plus, they don't look inside. |
I use Passport USB hard drives. I choose them for portability, convenience and because I have a low data cap that cloud storage would quickly eat up.
On the rare occasions that I use a cloud, I use Dropbox. I share pictures and video clips with friends that way but nothing secure or private. I do not trust cloud claims of privacy and security. A cloud is just a hard drive someplace else that you essentially telnet into. It can be hacked and eventually they WILL be hacked. That's my two cents anyway. |
