Feb 27th, 2016: Abolitionists

Before it was abolished(I wish I could say eliminated), slavery was repugnant to a large portion of the US.
But some were incensed enough to become abolitionists, and a portion of them became active rather than reactive.

These people knew they had a long row to hoe, and worked tirelessly toward that goal.

Most people will say the Civil War was about slavery. It was not.

But through the work of the abolitionists the groundwork was laid to prevent a reconciliation with slavery still in place.

Because of the abolitionists, the North or South had to win, there would be no reconciliation.

Obviously this alphabet was meant to win the hearts and minds of white children.
Teaching slaves to read and write was illegal. Besides, they all ready knew it sucked.
Laying groundwork... maybe as important as the underground railroad.
