Politics is a thing.

People can talk about politics for a long time, and the issue never gets quite settled. Once upon a time... people wrote a 47-page thread about Mitt Romney. A couple of years later, they haven't posted the words "Bernie Sanders" in over a month. Are there any people at this place anymore?

I heard a rumor that the New York primaries are on this very day. Has anyone else heard about that?

My son's girlfriend shook Bernie's hand a couple weeks ago. You want me to see if she'll send you a picture of her hand?

Flint 04-19-2016 04:25 PM

Yes, but not for that reason.

Ferd Sheed: What's this about?

Other Ferd Sheed: Some question. It's supposed to generate discussion.

Ferd Sheed: I'm not gonna answer it--you answer it.

Other Ferd Sheed: Let's get tw!

Ferd Sheed: Yeah.

Other Ferd Sheed: He won't ignore it ... he answers everything.

My brother is a big Bernie fan, and is living in NY right now. But he also won't go volunteer or do anything about it except argue with people on Facebook about how awful Hillary is.

Me, I care, but I live in a shitty state that won't matter in the general. I voted for Bernie in the Dem primary, that's the most I could do.

xoxoxoBruce 04-19-2016 08:49 PM

I'm afraid Bernie would be another Jimmy Carter. I'm also afraid trump would be another Richard Nixon. :(

classicman 04-19-2016 09:24 PM

For the first time in my life, I don't think I'm gonna vote. The stage is set. The game is fixed. Hillary was chosen back when she through her support behind a young black upstart. Heck, Ferd Sheed or Rint Flice could have beaten any R running in '08. The elites need the Clinton machine now far more than they did then.

Bernie for Vice President?

He needs to be back in the Senate holding their feet to the fire. We're looking at a failed Presidency and I wonder about a failed state eventually. We become assholes when we talk about politics, almost by design. We're going to have to all start engaging with our government. Find a policy area you care about and work the system.

Otherwise

It's beginning to look a lot like Russia,
everywhere you go.
Take a look in the Wally World, selling throw away crap to plebes
With Chinese pants and toxic treats aglow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Russia,
prisons from coast to coast,
lighting up criminals like toast, street cameras to record your every flaw
The thieving oligarchs large and in charge.

messy but you get the point

What if any reasonable proposal in congress would result in gridlock, anyway? Could someone making an attempt to nudge American politics a few degrees back from the far-right leaning course it's been on since the 1980s possibly make more of a contribution to society by having a national spotlight to change the dialogue?

Doesn't Bernie need to hold the Executive Branch's feet to the fire, so that all of the left-leaning concessions Clinton has made as campaign promises (and we all know the value of those) might actually continue forward as ideas that are being talked about, past the primary season?

Griff 04-20-2016 08:24 PM

Maybe so but people tend to disappear in the Vice Presidency. I don't suspect HRC will be listening to her Vice President in any case.

Flint 04-20-2016 08:29 PM

Yes, but he'd have access to TV cameras, and maybe, just maybe he could maintain people's interest, that he's been able to generate for the lifelong issues he's been advocating. Man, it's all wishful thinking at this point.

Griff 04-20-2016 08:33 PM

I hear ya.
