Preacher
Oh how I love this show!
I watch this and think: why oh why was it not AMC who did the tv adaptation of Constantine. It would have been so much better... I digress... Preacher - I love pretty much everything about this show. I love all the characters. I like the huge quirk factor. I like the visual style. I like the comedy, the dramatic beats, the intense violence. I fucking love Cassidy! Joe Gilgun is awesome. I remember him as the tearaway kid on Coronation Street (ridiculously long-running northern English soap opera) in the 90s. Dominic Cooper feels the right choice for the Preacher himself. I can't judge his accent, but it sounds good to me. Certainly I don't find myself constantly picking up little brit english cadences like I do sometimes with Brits doing an accent. Maybe it's because I haven't really seen much of his work, so don't have a strong association of him with his native accent, like I did with, say Chris Eccleston, whose accent in Leftovers jarred with me a bit. Tulip is also great. I like her chemistry with both Jesse and Cassidy. I've just watched episode 6 and I get the feeling things are about to get a whole lot weirder. Anybody else watching this show? |
Really like the opening credits and music.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's a trailer and promo. |
Yeah, I'm hooked. I dig Cassidy too!
|
I love the actor who plays him. He is such a total Manc.
How do the American accents sound to an American (Jesse and Tulip)? |
He's super crazy and has problems, but he is cute and lovable like a bad puppy.
|
Well they aren't American accents so much as very strong Texas accents, which is different. :) In that regard, they're as well-faked as most American actors would be faking one (unless it's Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson, but they're pretty much the only big names who legitimately speak that way.) For a legit look at the Texas accent in its native rural habitat, check out Richard Linklater's movie "Bernie."

I'm totally hooked and it seems to be taking a big departure from the graphic novels. Interesting to see where this might go. I hope they fully develop the Saint of Killers. They've given him a great introduction.
Oh, I think Emily is smoking hot. |
They said they're going in at a point before the comics - with a view to leading up to something much more like the comics.
|
Given that we have the comic series on the shelf, I imagine we'll be watching it here... once it's streaming. :)

I'm a fan. Haven't read the comics, so I've got no preconceptions.
|
It looks like they took the characters from the comics and made there own story. Radical departures from the original story line.
|
From what the showrunner says, some of the storylines have been totally altered, but the overall story will begin to look more familiar to the comicbook readers as it progresses. They've gone in with a kind of 'prequel' to the comic story, though with some key differences (as with Arseface's character backstory and Jesse being an actual preacher). The story of the show will start to catch up with the main comic story by the end of the season (I think).

Interview with Joe Gilgun:
http://www.esquire.com/entertainment...view-preacher/ And a 15 minute audio interview. There is also an edited print version of the interview, but the audio is better (right at the end of the print version). http://moviepilot.com/posts/3926805 He reminds me an awful lot of a lad I used to know, who lived with his girlfriend in the flat below me and J when we were still in Bolton. Similar kind of vibe and mannerisms. |
It appears Preacher took the characters from the comics and built their own story lines. They have gone so far off course.....
