Sycamore gives props to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

*sycamore calls the Unemployment Compensation office*

Syc: "Hi, I just had a question. I filed a claim last June and didn't use much from that claim. However, I've just been laid off again by another employer. Do I need to file a new claim, or is the current one still usable?"

UC rep: "Your current claim is active until the end of May. Let me get your employer information, and I'll make it effective this Sunday." (As long as I'm available for work the majority of the week, which I will be, it's all good. And if for some reason I'm not, then I won't file for this week.)

Syc: "So, I don't have to do the one-week waiting period?"

UC Rep: "No, since you will be collecting on a previous claim."

So, what's the point of this?

My claim from last year was based on my wages from 2001, in which I made about 33% more than I did with Acsys/Pep Boys. Bottom line: I'll make as much money on UC than I did working for Pep Boys after taxes. If I'm still out of work in June and have to file a new claim, my weekly benefit will drop...by about a third.

So for the moment, cha-ching! And the best part is...it's completely legit, baby! :)

Cha-ching AND wheels.

Why'd you get laid off, ya dumb bastard?

The assignment ended, Stu Pidass, and Acsys doesn't have anything else at the moment.

The assignment was only a 3-month gig...to handle W-2's. Truth be told, the majority of my work was finished in late February, but they had me doing other things...b/c they had budgeted enough money for my position until mid-April.

They actually wanted to keep me on permanently; however, they would have had to pay off my agency to do so. (Depending on the agency, if the company you work for wants to hire you within a specific amount of time, they must buy out your contract. With Acsys, it's 6 months, so Pep Boys wouldn't be able to hire me "clean" until July.) Pep Boys would have had to roughly pay off Acsys to the tune of $7000-9000. It's a business decision, and I understand that.

w0rd. You should maybe go back and talk to them in July if you were having a fun time there.

Do you realize how much you say "truth be told"? I used to use it a lot, but then I stopped 'cause you use it so damn much. Now you use it enough for like three of us. Crazy shit. :)

Yeah...but it's just a neutral phrase...it doesn't have the punch of "chucklehead," "ballbag," or "mouthbreather." :)
