So the husband presumably wins if he yanks her to the ground and incapacitates her, but how does she win? If he's knocked unconscious or cries "Uncle," I guess?

A 3 lb stone at arms length could kill him, or break bones. Remember back then women did a lot of physical labor and were pretty strong.

Well, then add this to your memory: that's like trying to catch a greased pig. Raw strength may help, but what you need is dexterity. And my cooter is assuredly not prehensile. :)
