New Message Reset
 

Sometimes I cannot go through all of the new messages and have to log out. I do not know if new messages are calculated from the timestamp of my last logon or if there is an index set somewhere, but would it be possible to allow the 'new message' time and date to be changed?

I believe we were able to do this on the waffle dial-up Cellar.

The search function doesn't seem to allow for general searches using only a date and time.

Yeah, I second that. It would be quite handy.

vBulletin makes it really hard to do that, by making its search code as convoluted and bizarre as possible. I think part of the problem, part of why it's so hard, is that determining your actual last visit time requires two entirely different subsystems, one based on sessions and one on cookies.

I even tried faking out the search routine by telling it that my own last visit time stamp was yesterday. It returned the thread list as if I'd only been here as of yesterday, but the display showed as if none of the posts were new and didn't have the pointers to new posts. This is probably because the forum display parts picked up my cookies...

So it's not a five-minute hack, and not even an hour hack, and so the idea has to be tabled.

Search Function
 

The search function can search by date, but require partial user name or keyword. Would it be possible to allow for a full wilcard as the search field or allow an empty search field to return all results by date?

You just started this thread to make me feel bad for all the jobs I won't tackle.
