July 5th, 2018: Dam Austria

The rain in Spain falls mostly on the plain, but the rain in central Europe falls mostly on the mountains.
When the rain comes down the rivers come up… it’s science.

This incredible flood wall was put to the test in Austria during the massive flooding in 2013. Temporary mobile flood walls, erected to
hold back 15 feet (approx. 4.5 meters) of floodwater, protected the area, which would otherwise get inundated by the floodwaters.

When the Danube floods, the city of Grein in Austria is prepared.
The foundation goes down 66 feet, or to bedrock, to keep the river from raising groundwater levels up under town.

They call them portable flood walls but that’s misleading, temporary is more accurate but the base structure is permanent, part of
the greater Machland Dam superstructure which extends 70 km (43.5 miles) along the coast and floodplain.

I wonder if there are anchors in the road for this section?

Obviously the wall in the top photo is up to the task, but it doesn't look like it would be. Buried deep!

Yeah, but if I lived in one of those houses I think I'd go visit someone on higher ground until it was over. :bolt:

Typical Reddit thread drift but it did have a good picture of the same location from the opposite direction.
