New Computer - Sony Vaio RZ22G

So, it being necessary for us to buy a lot of computers with insurance money, I went ahead and picked up two of these - Sony Vaio RZ22G. It's actually a pretty spiffy little machine for $899. DVD+-RW drive (meaning that it does DVD+RW and DVD-RW), 512MB PC2700 RAM, 80GB Seagate HD, Pentium 4 2.4GHz @ 533MHz FSB, GF4MX video... and (no kidding) a hardware MPEG2 Encoder/Decoder... with full TV in & out (RF, composite, and S-Video, plus SPDIF and Toslink Optical). It's basically perfect as a multimedia machine and one could easily upgrade the video and make it a killer gaming machine. I personally plan on using mine (my dad gets the other) as a part-time PVR until I get one. It'll also be the computer everyone can use when they're at my house so they'll stop fucking up my Cellar cookies (*cough*Andrea*cough*) and various other things people do that annoy me while on my computers. So yeah.

Anyway, anyone looking for a new computer, this was only $899 - and it retails at $1350 or so. Now, it's actually $999 and you get a $100 mail in rebate, but... either way, it's a hell of a deal.

Check out that link up there, it's a pretty impressive little machine, and just looking at the hardware (of course the first thing I did when I got it was opened it up and played around with everything), Sony did a hell of a job with it. Plus, it comes with a remote. Yeah!

Can you explain this in "for dummies" terms?

There are two formats of writable DVD competing for the standard. One is DVD-R, the other is DVD+R. They're different, but this drive writes them both. So basically, if you get this, you're futureproof for writing DVDs.
