Long Island Iced Tea

A long island iced tea is often my drink of choice, because for some reason I have an unnatural resistance to alcohol and other chemicals, and a Long Island is strong enough that I can start to feel the effects after a couple glasses.

I have had good Long Islands, and bad Long Islands. I am looking for a good recipe for one so I can build them at home occasionally, if anyone has one they particularly like. I've seen lots of variations, there are ten different recipes on www.webtender.com. I know I could try them all and work out one I like, but that can take awhile. Just wondering if anybody has had any experience with them, and what they found worked well.

A Long Island usually contains shots of gin, light rum, tequila, vodka and triple sec. Also sweet and sour mix, and usually a little cola for color.

HP,
If made correctly it should taste like iced tea when you squeeze a slice of lemon in it ( after you get over the alcahol burn for us mere humans ) . The BEST i ever had was in a small bar in a cave ( yes cave , ) in Okanowa Jap. They were SOOOO damn good a friend and I had WAAAAYYYYY to many . I don't rember much about that nite , but from what every one else said i got in 4 fights , destroyed a cement mixer lost all my clothes but my boxers . Gin affectes me that way . :D :D

The best Long Island I ever had was at a Chili's, surprisingly. I'd had them there before, and they were usually OK, but one night they must have had a bartender on duty who knew his/her shit. My guess is that they made the version where the tequila is removed and an extra 1/4 ounce of the other liquors are added to compensate.

If I have them with a meal, I have to have 3-4 long islands before I start to feel it. If on an empty stomach, I'll start feeling it about halfway through the second glass.

I don't know why alcohol has so little an effect on me, I'm not a big guy.. I'm about 5'9" and 165 lbs. The only time I have ever been drunk, I had three glasses of wine and nine shots of tequila, all on an empty stomach. Even then I could walk and talk pretty normally, I could just feel my head spinning.

The first time I ever drank was hilarious. A bunch of navy friends of mine tried to get me drunk, and I drank them all under the table. Heheh. Plus, I've never had a hangover.

I hear ya, brother. I'm the same way.... unless there's alcohol involved.

Trifecta!

word to the wise:
Don't drink six or seven Long Islands followed by several shots of the blue stuff that the hot waitress is pouring out of a bottle tucked into a holster. Down that path leads madness. And vomiting. Lots and lots of vomiting (at least it was a pretty blue color).
