Three Views of Rome, Italy

1 Attachment(s)
Rome is my second home. At least it feels that way. I go at least once a year to see my friends and hang out. These are some shots of the familiar sights there. I'll post more soon.

First up: One of the figures from the Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi) in Piazza Navona made by Bernini in 1648-51. There are four figures, each one representing one of the great rivers of the then known continents: The Danube for Europe, the Ganges for Asia, the Rio della Platta for the Americas and the Nile for Africa. The Nile figure's face is covered to represent the fact that Europeans did not know it's source at that time. This guy is the Ganges.

This is the Colosseum, of course.

And finally an interior shot of St Peter's Basilica.

Quick and dirty

The Ganges Fap-Fap. Sorry, everyone.

Well wasn't that what you were thinking?

xoxoxoBruce 08-21-2003 04:26 AM

Why yes...yes it was.

Yes, he definitely is an uncircumcised god, that's for sure.

Am I fucking up here, God?

What the man does?

What does he do, for fun?

arz 08-21-2003 08:02 AM

People have been making that comment since the day the fountain was revealed.

All of this serves as a reminder: do not post my photo of Mike's David from the l'Accademia...

:)

xoxoxoBruce 08-21-2003 12:26 PM

I think Mike's David is safe. Ganges already had his hand on the throttle, Net just put him in motion.:)

arz, I am surprised you didn't mention this

There is a tradition in Rome, if on your honeymoon you're walking around the Piazza Navona at midnight, if a statue comes to life, your marriage is doomed.

arz can you confirm this?

arz 08-23-2003 12:48 AM

Having been married once a long time ago I'd say having Mr Ganges come to life would be appropriate.

Other than that, no I've never heard that legend. I'll ask a few of my Roman pals.

On that note, however, if you want to return to Rome, throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain. If you want to fall in love in Rome, throw two. If you want to get married, throw three.

xoxoxoBruce 08-23-2003 12:56 AM

What if you just want to get lucky then leave, just 2 or take a handful out and find a hooker.;)

Undertoad 08-23-2003 07:36 AM

Is that dude still stealing coins from the Trevi fountain?

(There was a dude stealing coins from the Trevi fountain)
