Three More Views of Rome

As I threatened in the previous "Three Views of Rome" thread, here are a few more of "my" city.
This is my favorite photo of the Basilica of St Peter in the Vatican. Taken in December, 1996 early in the morning. The rising sun made the stone glow beautifully and the horse and the clouds were a nice touch, I thought. This was before the most recent cleaning of the basilica. Apparently people had forgotten it was NOT pure white; when the cleaning was finished for the Jubilee year in 2000 the church was beige. Accusations flew about the incompetency of the cleaning crew but it was indeed the correct color of the stone. |

This is a great little discovery I found one day by complete accident. This dead-end alley is a spot of tranquility no more than 100 meters from one of the busiest intersections in Rome; Via Cavour and Via dei Fori Imperiali. I especially like the splashes of greenery hanging precariously from the balconys.

This is a delighful little fountain in the piazza in front of the Pantheon. This place is probably my favorite in all of Rome. The piazza is surrounded by cafes and restaurants at ground level and apartments above them. The fountain is a gathering place for the neighborhood as well as visitors and the Pantheon itself is the best preserved and most spectacular ancient building in town.
