Fuck MTV

Fuck MTV It's just taken me over 2 hours to get home because of the MTV awards programe.I live in Edinburgh where some fuckwit decided would be a great place to host this show, however where the show was broadcast from wasnt big enough for all the spotty teenagers to see the show live so they had a live link to the middle of the main thoroughfare through the city where the gardens are and re- route all traffic and buses into one street fuckin' kaos. for what, the same old tired and shit corporate acts to win an award that means nothing.
If half these bands/ groups /acts had any original talent it would'nt be so bad half of them can't write their names never mind an original song.Christina Aguilera,Justin Timberlake God help us all...........

Yeah, see? As long as she doesn't talk. About the commute, sorry, man, that sucks. I'd be pissed too.

I will not argue with a billion years of evolution.

I've been to Edinburgh one time on a visit to ancestors, I remember what traffic was like on just a normal day. I feel your pain, man

I for one like MTV, especially there message boards!

elSicomoro 11-11-2003 11:46 AM

I remember when MTV actually showed music videos for most of the day, not just between 1 and 6am ET...those were the days.

dave 11-11-2003 11:51 AM

I quite like some MTV shows, namely Punk'd, Viva la Bam and Wild Boyz. Yes, those are quite entertaining.

wolf 11-11-2003 09:02 PM

I saw about 5 minutes of wildboyz last night. they were allowing tarpon to eat minnows out of their asses, and then attached the minnows (or smelts or whatevers) to string wrapped around hmmm .... mr happy and his two friends.

Too fucking weird.

I don't get it. Is that show supposed to be like extreme Jackass?

elSicomoro 11-11-2003 09:14 PM

I think it's time to build a bridge here...

Dave is their target demographic. People like Wolf and I don't get it. So, Dave, help us out...what makes those shows fun to watch?

wolf 11-11-2003 09:31 PM

Thanks, Syc, for reminding me of the moment when I realized that I'd transitioned from an MTV viewer to a VH1 viewer (of course, this was back when they still showed videos rather than goof-ass series, and VH1 was on this big 80s kick ...)

vsp 11-11-2003 09:32 PM

I haven't watched Punk'd, and only watched part of an episode of Wildboyz. (I like Chris Pontius, but Steve-O is best experienced in small doses.)

Viva La Bam, on the other hand, is right up my alley. Part of the joy of the show is that it's filmed right here in West Chester -- my sister was in the same class as Bam's younger brother, and you get to play "spot the local landmark" in most of the stunts Bam's ever done (both on Jackass and on VLB).

Now, Jackass combined a lot of elements. Steve-O and Danger Ehren specialized in sheer masochism; their appearances were of the "Hey, watch me abuse my body in strange and dangerous ways" variety. Pontius was more into Candid Camera-style stunts, generally flashing people in creative ways and catching their reactions. Knoxville did a little of everything, basically being a Hollywood stuntman gone horribly wrong.

Bam and his crew, on the other hand, were more like the local skate punks looking to get into some creative mayhem. (That's probably because that's exactly what they are.) Some of the stunts they've pulled are exactly the kinds of things people I know would've done in high school and college, had they thought of them at the time, which makes them more humorous to me than, let's say, Steve-O stuffing minnows up his ass.

It also helps that Bam's parents (particularly his father) have a sense of humor about Bam's antics. They seem like very cool people, the kind that I'd love to have as neighbors, other than that their son would be wreaking havoc next door on a regular basis. Heh -- maybe I should look for a house in Thornton. ;)

It's an acquired taste. Maybe it helps to be in that 18-to-35 male demographic, as I am.

elSicomoro 11-11-2003 09:36 PM

Actually, the demographic I was referring to is 18-24...but then again, you're like a little kid when it comes to gaming, so mentally you might be in there. :)
