So, Spode...How's That New Job Coming Along?

Glad I asked!

So far, I'm in training, and that means going home after a long day looking at obtuse and ancient computer screens, learning a dedicated system to do what my new employer does...namely, insulation.

I've been training in a different location than the one in which I will actually manage. It is a much smaller operation, and has a lot less chaos. I spent Friday at the actual place I'll work, giving my office a once over, and trying to absorb the shock of working in an actual corporate environment (translation: no email or Internet use that is not company-related, period, termination offense if you violate the policy). This is going to be both a challenging position (I don't think any of the women I'll be supervising like me, it is a very busy place, and it is in a good deal of a mess) and a tedious, drone-like position, with the only challenges being finding ways to overcome my own anti-corporate mindset.

Nevertheless, I'll do it, because it is going to be a fast-paced and varied environment, and I like that shit.

I'm looking forward to going to Austin a week from today, and seeing what I can learn there. My attitude is pretty good, and I'm by the Gods going to succeed at this, even if it kills me.

More as I experience it...

Just curious, do you work with any aging Marines? I thought maybe I'd start a support group.

Haven't asked anyone if they're Marine vets or not, actually. Few of them are older than I, so "aging" would be a relative concept, I'm afraid.

Just remember, spode, if you don't make any mistakes, you're not learning fast enough. you should always scare yourself when you take on a new job. Be mentally prepared, flexible and tenacious.

tenacious:

adj. (ten-Ay-shuss) : Biting off more than you can chew....and chewing it.

give 'em hell

ps. i DID ask how the first day went for you on your camcorder thread....
