The Internet is Good for Contacting Cool Musical People

So, my band and I are thinking about doing a rendition of "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum (we'll be substituting "Isis" for "Jesus" in the lyrics, BTW), and I get to wondering exactly how he did that nice crunchy intro. So, I look him up, find out he has a website, read it over, see that he has personal email, and shoot him a line, asking how he did it. I also mentioned to him that I had seen the Kentucky Headhunters do a damn fine version of his song.

And he responds...

"Thanks for writing.
The Kentucky Headhunters did a good cover.
All I used was a Telecaster through a Fender tube amp, finger picked and
had a custom built fuzz box and reverb. Sometimes simple makes it.

Norman Greenbaum"

Over the years, I've sent email and gotten responses from Roger McGuinn, Bob Moog, Scott Adams (Dilbert), Bill Griffith (Zippy the Pinhead) and others that I can't recall right now.

What a wonderfully egalitarian technology...
