Great American Love Songs

I'm trying to throw together a CD of decent American love songs that would be suitable to play at a wedding reception. I go to Vietnam on Monday and I want to be able to have some of my music represented with theirs.

Here's a few off the top of my head...

Endless Love - Lionel Ritchie & Diana Ross
Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers
You are the Inspiration - Chicago
Lady in Red - Chris DeBurgh
You Look Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon

I could use some help if you guys don't mind

Thanks.

how about "thank you" from zeppelin...it promises eternal love blah blah blah

blood of eden - peter gabriel

I nominate "Ana Ng" by They Might Be Giants.

Make a hole with a gun perpendicular
To the name of this town in a desk-top globe
Exit wound in a foreign nation
Showing the home of the one this was written for

It's a love song to a Vietnamese woman.

Knights in White Satin. I know it's not "American" but neither is Eric Clapton.:)

Actually I meant English speaking rather than "American". I'm looking for soft, light, love songs (appropriate for weddings) that will make her weepy. Chris Deburgh isn't American either.

:)

hey, could we get another photo of the bride? i can't find the one i saw earlier.

congrats, radar. i hope it all goes smoothly for you.

oh, and what will the ceremony be like? do they throw rice?
that's not a shot, btw, just curious...asian ceremonies always seem to be so much more serious than our silly american traditions.

I don't think they throw rice.

Here's a pic...

It wouldn't let me post because the same pics are posted in another thread.

HERE is a link to the thread.

She's professionally made-up and photographed. You can tell from the four-way catchlight in her eye.

she's beautiful. you must be estatic.

funny thread too. you said"cum bubble" rofl

Here's a few more I just thought of...

You are so Beautiful - Joe Cocker
The first time ever I saw your face - Roberta Flack
Reunited - Peaches & Herb
Just the way you are - Billly Joel

Undertoad 01-24-2004 01:14 PM

I think Billy Joel should be left off the list. It's too "standard" for receptions. Also, its sax solo is cheesy beyond belief.

Also, the meaning of the song is stupid when you really think about it. It seems like a nice sentiment and everything, but what it really does is to insist that the woman NOT change.

I sent her to get the Vietnamese version of "glamour shots".

Very much so. She's even more excited than I am. She told me she wants to have babies IMMEDIATELY. I don't think I want to leave my wife alone and pregnant in Vietnam while I come home ot America. She says not to worry because she'll be with her family. I don't like thier medical system though. Not only that but nobody drinks milk over there. Most people don't have a fridge. So babies are very small. I don't like that too much. But I'll tell her we can practice a lot.

It was a long and heated thread with me being ganged up upon and by that point I didn't care anymore. :)

Hmmm

I'll consider the Billy Joel thing, but I think the song is really saying "Don't change for me, I love you the way you are".

That's one thing I've noticed that's wrong with relationships.

Women usually look at a man like a lump of clay for them to mold the way they like rather than loving us the way we are. Men love women the way they are when we first get together. Women change too much and men don't change enough.
