And so it will end.

Prediction

Darl sues an end user. The end user moves to have the case put on ice until the underlying issue with IBM is resolved. Court agrees. Nothing further happens.

SteveDallas 03-02-2004 04:38 PM

Yeah, I agree. I don't see how SCO can expect anybody will pay them voluntarily, or any court would make anybody cough up, while the underlying issues are still in play.

? about lawyers

Isn't there a real possibility that IBM has more lawyers than SCO has employees?
More seriously, did anyone else hear that SCO got an infusion of cash from MS about six months before the lawsuits began? Or is that the OpenSource tin-foil-rumor-mill grinding out more bs?

SteveDallas 03-02-2004 05:40 PM

No, I think that was legit. MS did pay to license some of SCO's intellectual property that it was using in its Services for Unix products. Of course the amount (maybe $10 million?) was probably lunch money for Microsoft.

BrianR 03-03-2004 08:25 AM

so it's to be AutoZone.

I wonder how many lawyers THEY have?

Undertoad 03-03-2004 08:29 AM

I'm sure IBM will give them some on loan :)

Let's start discovery gentlemen! To begin with we would like a copy of all emails SCO has internally sent on these matters.

I drive past SCO headquarters every day on the way to work. I could spit and hit the building. In fact, I think I'll start doing that from now on.

Hmm. I propose a new flavor of non-violent protest... the loogie-fest. Whenever possible, every person participating in the protest will go to the site of the offender, and snort up the juiciest loogie they can manage. Then, just fire away outside the main entrance. If enough people do this often enough, the site's main entrance will become mired in a tar of human mucus, which should serve well in making a statement, and driving away some customers. A large, organized surprise loogie-fest would be quite effective, methinks.

I think SCO is a good first candidate for this approach. Who's with me?

Ok, so none of you live in Utah. You can mail your loogies to SCO then. In the meantime, maybe I'll try to rally up some local support for the idea. :D

We could always just mail them all of our AOHell cd's. I get the same icky feeling in either case.

Hmmm... Microsoft gave SCO $100 million under the table?

hot_pastrami 03-04-2004 03:16 PM

Excellent... Judge Brooke C. Wells orders SCO to produce the code they claim that Linux infringes upon. She also ordered SCO not to release a statement about it. Heheh.

Via a Slashdot article.

hot_pastrami 03-11-2004 10:43 AM

It's confirmed... Microsoft helped arrange $50 million in SCO investments by playing "matchmaker." Though I'm sure it has nothing to do with the Linux lawsuits... I'm sure Microsoft just sees a lot of potential in SCO's technology and business practices. *cough*
