Labor code thwarts restoration projects. Volunteers must earn prevailing wage.
 
Efforts to restore watershed habitats throughout California, including several in the Bay Area, are threatened because the state is using a largely unknown law to force nonprofit groups to pay prevailing wages to volunteers on their publicly funded projects.

I'm always surprised when the environment and worker protection are considered to be partisan issues.

As goofy as this sounds ....

This has some staggering implications.

Some of the services we absolutely rely on are volunteer ... fire and ambulance.

It's amusing when you think about Habitat for Humanity having to pay people to build houses, but when it comes to life-saving, that's not so funny.
