here's one of a wagon that was on our property when we bought back in '84. it was almost not restorable but we managed....

Wow! Great pics - esp the early morning ones.

I think there is a ghost milling about in the "sunrise at 6:45 or so" photo. And why is the lead (the arm between the trailer and hitch since I'm sure I used the wrong word) so long on the trailer ?

The sunrise in the barn shot is an award winner if you ask me.

that's just the length we made it. not sure why (or can't remember) but you can hook it up to the jeep and get yourself one bumpy ride though! it rests there for looks now.

If it's an oxcart, the beam can be hooked to the yoke, which is way up at the front of the ox.

If you're going to hitch a team of horses to the cart, the tongue goes into a thingy in between the collars.

No, that only works with an oxbow. With horses the tongue would be attached to a triple tree. The first tree (crossbar) hooks to the tongue from the middle and each end hooks to the center of another tree. The second and third trees hook to the horse collars with traces (straps/chains) so that it pulls evenly on both sides of the collars. The purpose of the triple tree is to put an even load on each horse even though they aren't exactly side by side. A 40 mule team would use 20 triple trees. :)
