The new Iraqi flag

Apparently, the new flag design for Iraq has not been well received by the Iraqi public.

What do you think?

I wouldn't want it either. It's ugly.

elSicomoro 04-27-2004 05:01 PM

Well, it does look similar to the Israeli flag...

DanaC 04-27-2004 05:55 PM

Yes it does look a little like the Israeli flag....Who'd have thought it? Fancy the Iraqis not appreciating their new Israeli like flag ...*sigh* The dominant colours on most Arabic flags are red green and black....

xoxoxoBruce 04-27-2004 09:06 PM

I that United Nations blue?;)

Fundamental colors of Islam are red, green, and black. None appear in that flag.

elSicomoro 04-27-2004 09:12 PM

But when you hear why the flag is what it is, it sounds sensible enough: The crescent is for Islam, the blue stripes are for the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and the yellow stripe is for the Kurds.

And yes, Bruce, the color of the crescent is UN blue. The IGC apparently came up with this flag...a signal, perhaps?

Chalk this one up in the stupid ideas column.

Skunks 04-27-2004 11:33 PM

So they're calling the Kurds yellow-bellied cowards?

Wait, no -- two rivers, then a yellowy-gold stripe. Urine!

richlevy 04-28-2004 03:49 PM

Sorry, but it looks like something from a cruise ship.

Simliar colors, too.
